During breathwork

In the third round of breathwork this afternoon
Open your chest, open your heart centre
I dreamt you kneeling before me, hands on my belly,
Mocha eyes shining and uplifted
As we both felt
Her slow miraculous cartwheel.

Take a deep breath in and hold –
The wide world smiled to see my family
Pressing love into one another.
“This is so sacred,” you said.
In my heart a little bird rose up singing.

Exhale slowly through the mouth.
For the length of that breath, inside that golden droplet,
It wasn’t true that you had never wanted either of us.
I drank nectar from your eyelashes.
I was rich beyond wildest imagining.

Now we’re regulating, breathe slowly in through your nose, out through your mouth.
Bringing myself back into the space around me, I understand
That I am doing grief right. It is not forever,
But it is for now.
My body will tell me when it is time to get up and dance. Until then
I will rest in this black velvet,
Soft and safe.
